The purpose of this notice is to provide stakeholders with the status of the draft 9 th Edition of the MA State Building Code. As of January 12, 2016, the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (вЂњBBRSвЂќ) completed an effort, which has lasted over two (2) years, by approving a final draft of the 9 th Edition of the MA State Building Code (вЂњ780 CMRвЂќ). The proposed new code is based upon the 2015 I-Codes, as published by the International Code Council (вЂњICCвЂќ). This effort is a testament to the hard work performed by a large group of volunteers, sister agencies, and professional organizations who assisted the BBRS through participation in Technical Advisory Committees and presentations for the BBRS at public meetings. The Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the introduction of the first phase of its new online Inspection and Permitting System (IPS). During this initial phase, users are able to apply and pay for Elevator permits and related inspections, Building permits and related inspections (including Certificates of Inspection), and Electrical permits and related inspections using the DPS web based IPS Portal. All users will be required to register in the system, and will receive email confirmation before proceeding to the application process. The Department accepts credit cards, (only accepting MasterCard at this time), and electronic checks for on line payments. There are instructions contained within the system for each step.
