Description: Gisele Bundchen has some harsh criticism for the Patriots. But we think we can forgive her.

"I am not used to doing naked shoots, but when you trust the photographer and the crew you know it won't be vulgar."

Without a doubt, Gisele Bundchen has been -- and still is -- the biggest name in modeling. An industry mainstay since she first walked the runway for Alexander McQueen. Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, Gisele Bundchen has single-handedly ushered in a new modeling trend of emphasizing sexy over skinny (according to Vogue ) and now stands as the highest-paid and most sought-after face in the fashion industry. A well-recognized favorite with everyone from Victoria's Secret to Apple, Gisele has achieved a level of fame that every model seeks, but only a handful ever achieve.

In simple terms, Gisele Bundchen defines "sexiness" just by existing. Despite her own complaints about her large nose or her opinion that her twin sister is actually the more attractive Bundchen of the bunch, it's common knowledge in the sex quadrant of the pop culture spectrum that Gisele Bundchen is a very special creature. Since becoming a model icon, she's been singled out by various publications and networks (Rolling Stone. FHM. Stuff. VH1. E! ) for her flawless physique and sexy nature. Sporting a more shapely figure than some of her predecessors, Gisele Bundchen's chest curves have also blessed her with the nickname of "Boobs from Brazil."

Rich. Gorgeous. Recession-proof. That's Gisele Bundchen, even though a few words really don't begin to scratch the surface of the world's true top model. Boasting an annual salary that tops $20 million and a personal fortune that exceeds $70 million, Gisele Bundchen is easily the highest-paid model in the world and it shows in her work -- a portfolio that includes over 500 magazine covers (Elle. Esquire ), a who's who of industry photographers (Mario Testino. Steven Meisel ) and designers (Versace, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton), and heaps of high-profile endorsements (Apple, Victoria's Secret). With the No. 1 spot on Models.com list of the Top Model Icons of All-Time, as well as praise sent her way from Claudia Schiffer and (gasp) Naomi Campbell. Gisele Bundchen is completely in a supermodel league all her own.

So why is Gisele Bundchen so successful? With every success story, there's usually a fair amount of natural abilities, career smarts and luck. In Gisele Bundchen's case, the fact that she's globally-recognized as being drop-dead gorgeous has helped her to some degree. The fact that people come out in droves to the brands that she pitches is another. A three-month comparison between the profit growth of Gisele Bundchen’s clients and the Dow Jones Industrial Average showed her in the lead by almost double. This girl means business and she’s been sharp enough to become indestructible in one of pop culture's most cutthroat industries. While not without occasional detractors and weirdo fans -- ex-ally John Casablancas coined her "a monster of selfishness" and an obsessed fan tattooed her across his chest -- Gisele Bundchen is still the rarest of models who can write her own ticket and enjoy her fame until she chooses to retire.

Gisele Bundchen, one of two beautiful Bundchen twins, was born and raised in Brazil where -- in a twist that would make her future husband smile -- she was substantially more interested in an athletic career than a modeling one. While Gisele Bundchen’s thin, agile frame lent itself well to her preferred sport of volleyball, it also attracted cruel comparisons from her schoolmates to Popeye’s gal pal, Olive Oil, and various local shorebirds. After a stint in a modeling class, Gisele Bundchen would get the last laugh during a 1994 field trip to Sao Paulo where she was approached by modeling reps from Elite. After a second-place finish in the Brazilian installment of the Elite Look of the Year competition in 1995, Gisele Bundchen made the top five in the world version, and left for New York City in 1996.

Gisele Bundchen’s first foray into the bright lights of the professional fashion world came in September of 1996, when she walked the runways of Fashion Week to spotlight the new collections of Alexander McQueen, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. In the same month, she was featured back in Brazil on the cover of the magazine Capricho. Her fashion beginnings would continue to blossom as she added new designers like Givenchy, Chanel and Ralph Lauren to her client roster and shot her first two magazine covers for the May and December 1998 editions of Allure. After two more covers for Harper’s Bazaar and W in early 1999, Gisele Bundchen would hit her stride with three consecutive Vogue cover shoots, capped off by her selection as 1999’s VH1/Vogue Model of the Year.

The year 2000 was a banner year for Gisele Bundchen, as she dated Leonardo DiCaprio in her personal life and continued her model assault on pop culture in her professional life. In addition to closing in Paris for Galliano and Valentino, she became only the fourth model to grace the cover of Rolling Stone. Naturally, industry stalwart Victoria’s Secret snatched her up to become a Victoria’s Secret Angel. With the lingerie company, she would develop into a long-term fixture in ads and fashion shows. After making the first of two appearances in the esteemed Pirelli Calendar of 2001, Gisele Bundchen briefly shocked the fashion industry when she announced that she was “retiring” from the catwalk. In fact, she was only becoming pickier, and she would return a year later to work with Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior. With Dior, she would sign an exclusive modeling contract while also developing her acting skills in commercials for CrediCard and Nivea, and the Jimmy Fallon -led 2004 feature film, Taxi .

In 2006, Gisele Bundchen became the dream girl for geeky eyes everywhere when she inked a deal with Steve Jobs and the gang at Apple Inc. to be the face of the Get a Mac advertising campaign. She would add to her bank account as the centerpiece of the “Gisele Plays with Vogue ” eyewear campaign and by renewing her Victoria’s Secret deal for a whopping $25 million. Gisele and the lingerie superstars would part ways a year later, but she would continue to expand her horizons through her new sandal line, Ipanema Gisele Bundchen, which became the hottest-selling Brazilian-made sandals on the planet. The sandals now sell more than 25 million pairs a year. With that, Forbes christened Gisele as the world’s richest annual model, a title she would not soon be giving up.

As the fashion industry and the world economy came to grips with the early days of the economic downturn in 2008, Gisele Bundchen continued to her reign as the richest model in the business. Renowned photographer Mario Testino was called upon to shoot her for a number of projects like a Versace campaign (where she replaced Catherine McNeil and Kate Moss ) and a July cover shoot for V that fixed her up in revealing shorts. In her personal life, she would enter the sports arena again in her own way as the wife of NFL superstar Tom Brady, who she married in 2009. Gisele gave birth to the couple's first baby, Benjamin Rein Brady, in December of 2009. In 2011, Forbes named them the Highest Paid Celebrity Couple, beating out Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and even Kay-Z and Beyonce.

With the economy struggling, Gisele Bundchen didn’t let her sizable income distract her from giving something back. Through Elle. she did photo shoots for 20 of the magazine’s covers as a fundraising project for the Global Fund AIDS effort in Africa. She also joined everyone from Ellen DeGeneres to Bill Clinton in autographing iPods to raise money in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As she celebrated her marriage to Tom Brady and the birth of their son, and continued pondering her next big industry move, she continued to give back as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program and through a $1.5 million donation to the Haiti Earthquake relief efforts in 2010. Bundchen also donated $1 million to the earthquake fund set up by the Japanese Red Cross Society in March of 2011, after Japan was hit by the most powerful earthquake ever to go on record as striking Japan. In 2014, the wealthy environmentalist also joined the Rainforest Alliance board of directors and designed a line of clothing for Born Free Africa, 100% of the profits of which go toward ending mother-to-child HIV transmission at birth. Despite all the time she dedicated to philanthropy in 2014, Gisele still made time to passionately support her home country's team in the FIFA World Cup, and was bestowed the honored role of presenting the trophy to the winning team.
