John will seek out stories that are complex and that deserve the question to be asked "Whatever Happened To. " These may be Big Stories of the past, Big Promises that were made or Big Projects that our viewers want to know the current status on.

He is a 65-year-old career journalist who worked at newspapers in Oregon and Texas until Aug. 31, 2012.

He studied political science at Portland State University in his hometown of Portland, Ore. John began his journalism career in December 1976 as a copy desk aide for the Oregon Journal. He later was hired in April 1977 as a sports writer for the Oregon City Enterprise-Courier, becoming editor of the paper in 1979.

In April 1984, John moved to Beaumont, Texas, to become an editorial writer for the Beaumont Enterprise; he later would become editorial page editor at the paper.

John worked in Beaumont until January 1995, when he was named editorial page editor of the Amarillo Daily News and Amarillo Globe-Times. The papers merged in April 2001.

John has earned several awards along the way for editorial writing and column writing in Texas, winning the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association honor in 1981 for “best continuing coverage of a single issue.”

John married his wife, Kathy, in September 1971. They have two sons, Peter (42) and Nathan (40), two grandsons and a granddaughter.

John is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving a tour in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic and flight operations specialist.
