It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Donald Wilfred Zinck, 86, of Bridgewater and formerly of Lunenburg, announce his passing on Monday, March 14, 2011 at home with his loving family by his side.

Don started his working career in 1940 as a sheet metal worker with the Lunenburg Foundry and then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force for 2 years. After the war he returned to the Foundry and then went to vocational school in North Sydney. He returned again to Lunenburg where he was employed with Powers Brothers, then Atlantic Bridge (10 years), Atlantic Shipbuilding and then with the Lunenburg Foundry Garage. Prior to his retirement in 1990 Don worked as a commissioner with National Sea and Special Constable (Meter) with the Town of Lunenburg.

Don loved life and willingly volunteered his time and energy to many organizations as a member with the Lunenburg Lions Club; Queen of the Sea Committee; the Lunenburg Curling Club; Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23; Lunenburg Yacht Club and Unity Lodge #4 of the Masonic Order. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Zion Male Choir.

In 1993 he and Mona moved to Bridgewater where he joined St. Pauls Lutheran Church and later Bridgewater United Church. While residing in Bridgewater he was a member of the Bridgewater Curling Club, St. Pauls Male Choir and driver for 13 years with the Senior Wheels bus.

Though Don lived an active lifestyle, it was his family that was closest to his heart and his deepest joy. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mona; daughters, Donna (Mark) Boucher, Ottawa; Sharon (Tom) Spindler, Lower Sackville; sister, Florence (Ray) Colp, Halifax; grandchildren Cole Boucher, Ottawa; Andrew and Caroline Spindler, Lower Sackville; nieces Debbie Parkinson, Rhonda Poland and nephew Scott Moreash and their families, all of Ontario.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg where a Legion Service will be held on Thursday at 6:45 PM followed by visitation from 7:00 9:00 PM. A service to celebrate Dons life will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. from Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Vivian Moores, officiating. A reception will be held following the service at the Bridgewater United Church Hall. Interment will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery.
