Tricia Helfer was born in the rural community of Donalda, Alberta, Canada, in 1974, and grew up on her family's grain farm. At the age of 17, she was discovered by Kelly Streit, a modeling agency scout, while standing in line at the local movie theater. Tricia's modeling career exploded when she entered and won Ford's Supermodel of the World Contest in 1992, leading to her signing with the Elite Modeling agency and a successful career.

In addition to print work for major fashion publications such as Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Tricia did runway gigs for designers like Christian Dior, Emanuel Ungaro and Givenchy. Her first important magazine cover appearance with for the August 1993 U.S. edition of Elle .

While her modeling career was still red-hot, Helfer became a correspondent for the fashion program Ooh La La in her native Canada. It was during this reporting stint that she discovered her love for the film camera. After residing in New York City for several years, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time.

While Helfer appeared in cameo roles in fashion documentaries such as 1995's Unzipped and 1996's Catwalk. she didn't win her first real acting role until 2000, playing Inga in the comedy short Eventual Wife. which aired on HBO/Cinemax.

She then landed a meatier role on the two-hour premiere of the Showtime series Jeremiah. The series was promptly canceled, but the budding actress managed to move on to a guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in May 2002, portraying a model who attempted to slice off her own face. That same year, she wed entertainment lawyer Jonathen Marshall.

In addition to her television appearances, Helfer made it onto the big screen in 2003, playing a female lead in the indie feature White Rush. She lent her beauty and poise expertise to the 2003 Miss Teen USA and 2004 Miss USA pageants as a judge.

In December 2003, Tricia appeared as the cyborg Number 6 on the Sci Fi channel's remake of the '70s TV series Battlestar Galactica. and also appeared in a sexy photo spread in Maxim magazine.

In March 2004, Helfer costarred as original Angel Farrah Fawcett in the NBC TV movie Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Charlie's Angels'. She made a memorable guest appearance on CBS' The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn just days before the telefilm aired.

The Battlestar Galactica miniseries was one of the Sci Fi network's best rated shows ever, and it was subsequently picked up for additional episodes. Helfer spent the spring of 2004 in Vancouver filming the series. She was selected as the cover girl for Maxim 's 2005 wall calendar.
