MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The mayor of Mount Vernon wants to see your pothole pictures.
Mayor Richard Thomas is inviting the public to share photos of street craters on his Facebook page. He says they also can use Twitter and Instagram.
Thomas says he wants to people to use the hashtag #potholemv. He’s tracking it, so he knows where crews should be sent to make repairs. As the effort got underway, Thomas says two photos were uploaded on Thursday.
“We’re tracking that hashtag to make sure we’re following the feedback on the potholes going up in the social media discussions,” Thomas told WCBS 880.
He says six recommendations for repairs also were made on Facebook, and people have been taking the old-fashioned route, as well, by calling them in.
“We’re using this user-generated data to dispatch our pothole repair trucks,” Thomas said. “This way, when we identify a pattern in a large cluster, we can readily respond and eliminate the potholes.”
Ice and snow get into concrete and asphalt this time of year. Then they expand to cause cracks that widen into potholes.
