Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is a 103-acre facility dedicated to conservation, education, recreation and tourism. It houses an award-winning, 9500-square-foot building filled with live animal exhibits; photographic presentations of the site's flora and fauna; natural artifact and mineral displays; and a sizeable, vintage waterfowl decoy carving collection. Ecology and art exhibits are featured periodically.

This site has a "no pets" policy except on designated days. Call 225-757-8905 for more information on our Dog Days program, when visitors are allowed to enjoy the Swamp with their pets.

The recently added Education Building at the Bluebonnet Swamp is located directly adjacent to the already established Bluebonnet Swamp. The physical address for the Education Building is:

Nature programs and environmental education are conducted throughout the year including educational group tours, live animal encounters, holiday and summer day camps, toddler activities, birding walks, field trips and special events.

Led by a member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society, visitors enjoy a morning hike through the forest and swamp while identifying various bird species. Bird-watching techniques and identification tips are also discussed. Beginners are welcome. Field guides and binoculars optional but recommended. For more information on birding and the Bluebonnet Bird Monitoring Project, visit braudubon.org. Registration is not required.

Throughout the school year, every month the Baton Rouge Audubon Society presents guest speakers focusing on all sorts of bird-related topics. Seating is limited and registration is recommended to reserve a spot. Dates and topics are subject to change,so please call to confirm before attending. Registration is recommended.
