Description: Bringing to you the best concert of the year, every year, Hot 97 brought the heat with Summer Jam 2014.

For the 21st year in a row, HOT 97 went all out for Summer Jam 2014 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. HOT 97’s Summer Jam was presented by Beck’s Sapphire. and made HOT by Beats Music. Pepsi. McDonald’s Sweet Tea, Keek and MetroPlus Health Plan ; their partners are XXL Magazine and Year Up .

The party began with live performances on the festival stage located outside of the arena in the parking lot area. About 17,000 fans showed up to see performers like Iggy Azalea, Chinx, Mack Wilds, Childish Gambino, Jhene Aiko, August Alsina and Nipsey Hustle, in that order.

Aside from the music festival, HOT 97 offered both a dance and trivia contest (which I was a part of) for a chance to win a HOT 97 logo towel, and a chance to upgrade your seats in the stadium. There were a number of tents lined up outside of the stage offering other amenities like clothing for sale by music artist Nicki Minaj’s clothing line. They even had a tent where you can customize and create your own Pepsi soda can.

HOT 97’s Summer Jam was introduced by the heavy hitters in the HOT 97 camp. Laura Styles, Angie Martinez, Miss Info, Ebro, Cipher Sounds and Rosenberg had their different sets of introducing the music artists to the stage. They let everyone know, just like the every year before, Summer Jam 2014 will be packed with many surprises. The hottest concert of the year started off with a performance by singer and songwriter Sevyn Streeter, followed by Troy Ave; he performed on the Summer Jam stage for the first time ever.

Action Bronson showed up after and showed out. The rap artist from Queens, NY performed his set bare-foot before ending his segment in the middle of his fans below him. Later, The Roots joined the stage to perform before bringing out a special guest… The Lox. Yes, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Styles P ripped the stage apart and had the fans going crazy with some 90’s hip hop. The temperature in the arena arose when the sexy Trey Songz came onto the stage singing jams, for the ladies of course, before bringing out a special guest of his own, Ty Dolla $ign. The two performed their remix of the song “Paranoid”.

Wiz Khalifa also hit the stage to perform hits like “We Dem Boyz” and “Work Hard, Play Hard” and literally move the crowd. This hipster definitely wasn’t alone for his entire set, Wiz also had a special guest and fellow stoner accompany him on stage. Snoop Dogg came out, and the two paired up to perform their hit song “Young, Wild, and Free”. To end it off, Snoop Dogg performed a few solo songs of his own. The duo asked the crowd “What you gonna do?”, the crowd replies, “Smoke weed everyday” before making their exit.

Nas was the first of a heavy “artists from Queens, NY” close-out at Summer Jam, where he set fire to the stage. The “Illmatic” rapper brought out special guests as well; Both Meek Mill and French Montana from Maybach Music Group shared the stage with him. They each performed songs of their own; it’s Meek Mills that hyped the crowd when he performed “Dreams and Nightmares” and French Montana did the same with his hit song “Ain’t Worried About Nothing”. But Nas wasn’t done yet…

The QU borough popped it off for the rest of the event; Nas had 50 CENT accompany him on stage. Haven’t performed on the Summer Jam stage since his previous stage uproar in 2004, 50 CENT took it back and gave the crowd some of his best hits and even songs from his upcoming album “Animal Ambition” that is due to release this month. 50 had a reunion session when he brought out his G-Unit camp, including Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and even Young Buck. We know what you’re thinking; aren’t they all beefing? They didn’t seem to have any controversy on stage, until a minor fight broke out during 50’s performance which involved Queens native, Slow from Slow Bucks. Well all drama aside, G-Unit chose to let the past be the past and gave an outstanding performance.

Showing off for the Queens borough, Nicki Minaj entered the stage performing her verse on the “Monster” song track featuring Kanye West, Jay Z and Rick Ross. Unfortunately they were not there to join her, but that didn’t stop her from bringing out other artists. Nicki wore high-waisted polka dot pants and a sheer top showing off her star-covered boobs. She was also joined on the stage by Young Thug, Lil Herb and Soulja Boy.

Nicki Minaj turned up the heat, giving off that she had a bit of drama in her own camp with Drake. The Young Money pink princess shouted out “Drake! I use to love you, but Ni%$a  I don’t f$&% with you no more”, only to have Drake show up on set right after and performed his song “Worst Behavior”. You know it was only right for her to have Lil Wayne come to her stage party. Wayne came out shirt-less with a hat-mask that covered his entire face, all while performing his verse to “Believe Me” with Drake. Her performance is noted as the best of the evening.

There was an extensive DJ line-up during performance intermissions. To take us into straight party mode were DJ’s like Absolut and Funk Master Flex. Funk Flex definitely turned Metlife stadium into a party arena. He also had his fair share in the drama of the evening when he screamed “F%&$ Trinidad James” into the microphone.

Speaking of DJ’s, the evening ended with a performance by DJ Mustard. Mustard took to the turntables to spin off some of his hottest hits with his best collaborators; Ty Dolla $ign came back out to perform “Paranoid” once again. Kid Ink came out and performed “Main Chick” and “Show Me”, followed by YG who performed “My Nigga” and “Who Do You Love”. Young Jeezy then came out and performed one of his hits with DJ Mustard, “R.I.P.”, followed by a super awesome performance by A$AP Ferg performing “Work” and “Shabba Ranks”.

Every artist had a very relaxing dress code; some of the male artists wore a white or black tee, accompanied by a serious chain game. Artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Drake and Fabolous wore something else; Fabolous came through wearing a sweatsuit, Wiz Khalifa wore a black army vest over his graphic shirt and Drake wore a black and white stripped sweater with black jeans.

Summer Jam 2014 was a great turnout. Every performance was clean cut and left every single fan wanting more. If you missed out this year or this story left you wanting more, check out this video recap of Summer Jam 2014.
