4. Three letters of reference. Recommend professional (not personal). Make sure the letters have your first and last name on them. The OKC program requires letters from references.

7. Must take the general test component of the GRE. Completing the General Test component of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) prior to the October 1 deadline is a prerequisite. Scores must be forwarded to the University of Oklahoma Physician Associate Program. This prerequisite applies to all applicants except those having earned a graduate degree from an accredited United States institution. Only official scores of the Graduate Record Examination less than five (5) years old will be accepted. This policy will be waived if the applicant has completed a Master- or Doctoral-Level degree from an institution within the United States.

It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure all requirements are turned in prior to the October 1 deadline.

** The Physician Associate Program does not offer or accept advanced standing credit for any course offered within the program. Students are required to complete all courses during their academic career at the program. However, if another academic unit wishes to offer advanced standing in their course, the Physician Associate Program will honor it. These academic units include the College of Pharmacy and the Department of Physiology.

A minimum of 90 semester hours from an accredited college or university including the prerequisites listed below. All prerequisites must be completed by the end of the spring semester prior to starting the PA Program.

  • Principles of English Composition I
  • Principles of English Composition II
  • U.S. History 1492 to 1865 -OR- U.S. History 1865 to Present
  • Government of the United States (English, History and Government are waived if a Bachelor's degree has been earned prior to the start date of classes)
  • College Algebra or higher
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Psychology elective (NOT Sociology)
  • General Chemistry I
  • General Chemistry II
  • Physics
  • Human Anatomy **
  • Human Physiology **
  • Microbiology
  • Pathogenic Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, or Genetics

** Note- One semester of Anatomy and one semester of Physiology OR two semesters of a combined anatomy and physiology course (A&P).

There is no preference for one course over another for Pathogenic Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, or Genetics.
