Pronounced Mark Four, the Jaguar Mark IV was a saloon vehicle built by Jaguar from 1945 through 1945, and was a re-launch of a pre WWII model produced by SS Car Ltd from 1936.The company was renamed Jaguar Cars Ltd. after the war. The nomenclature ‘Mark IV’ was applied by the trade to simply differentiate it from the officially named Mark V. The Saloons were named SS Jaguar 1 ½ litre, 2 ½ liter or 3 ½ liter. The little two seater sports vehicle was called the SS Jaguar 100 2 ½ liter or 3 ½ liter.

Never officially designated, the Jaguar MK IV was the nomenclature set aside for the range of immediately post-war saloons. The name Jaguar has always been synonymous with luxury, prestige and extravagance. Jaguar’s first postwar model, the three-position drophead coupe was distinctive, captivating and extravagant. Extremely rare today, the MK IV was an extremely desirable vehicle and one of the few postwar cars that is considered a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America.

Introduced in 1945, the MK IV was visibly recognized by its classic lines and rugged simplicity. The outside of the car was marked by a long hood, large freestanding headlamps, a narrow, close-coupled body, flowing separate font fenders and an upright radiator capped by the Jaguar mascot. The interior featured high-quality furnishings that included a traditional British wood dash with large, easily readable marked dials. Jaguar’s first cars after WWII were essentially continuations of the 1938-39 models. The Jaguar Mark IV 1.5 liter model rode a six-inch shorter wheelbase and featured a four cylinder rather than a six-cylinder engine. The 1.5 liter’s top speed was around 70 mph while the 3.5 liter could achieve more than 90 mph.

A total of 5,761 1.5 liter Jaguar Mark IV’s were produced, 1,861 2.5 liters and 4,420 of the 3.5 liter models. The Mark IV featured a wheelbase of 112.5 inches, an overall length of 173.0 inches, and had a weight of 2,970 lbs.

This stunning car in Sued Green  was delivered to the first owner on the 26th June 1947 from Robb Motors, Cape Town, South Africa.

This is a matching numbers car, Body number B 6251, Engine number S 1478, Chassis number 611549.  As a highly desirable original Right Hand Drive car with the Larger 3.5 Litre engine the car is extremely rare & very sought after.

Having spent a great many years in dry storage, in 1959 the car returned to the United Kingdom from South Africa.

Clearly time had taken its toll.  The History File picks up a slow series of Restoration Chapters reflecting the cars then need for work.

In September 1999 the car was the subject of a complete body off re-paint and followed an extensive well documented restoration of the car, which was completed in August 2003 and included a total engine re-build by Marque Specialist Davenport Cars Ltd.The resumption of UK MOT tests in 2003 reflects the cars laid up period, in the four years duration of restoration works.

This car is presently undergoing sympathetic further re-commissioning work in our workshop presently, so as to ensure a proud new owner has all the mechanical peace of mind and pride of ownership that a fully sorted and correctly restored early Post War Jaguar brings!

The Interior of the car in matching Sued Green original Connolly Hide is an absolute delight.  The Patina bringing a Bygone era to the present for any would be occupant of the Car!  Many hours with leather feed and sympathetic care resulting in the interior being a treat to behold.

Various footwell panels are presently being recovered and trimmed, such that an unmarked and fully correct interior can be enjoyed for years to come.

The Car is presently the subject of an extensive schedule of works, due for completion over the next two months in readiness for Christmas this year, by our team here in Suffolk.

Works include: a total overhaul of the cars electrical system; localised external paintwork in period sued green cellulose, resulting in 10/10 Paintwork; a total overhaul of the cars braking system and clutch hydraulics; some re-chroming of brightwork so as to present with 10/10 chrome – presently headlights, front radiator grill are fabulous, with various trims benefiting from re-plating now; full restoration of the cars original tool kit, to include sympathetic re-trimming of part of the luggage area;  full strip down and rebuild of all 4 x corners / suspension components, to include new bushes, re-conditioned shock-absorbers and digital wheel alignment;  repaint and full refurbishment of the wire wheels in body colour matching sued green; full preparation of the underside of the car with re-application of clear Waxoyle; re-build of carburetors / ignition system to include final Rolling Road set up and re-jetting to suit modern fuels as required.

The completion of the above schedule of works will ensure an absolutely fabulous example of this Jaguar is ready for 2013 and beyond.

The cars fabulous looks with headlamps from a Bygone era of motoring (arguably one of the best periods to produce Iconic Motor Cars!) combine to produce a wonderful way to travel.  With entry by the period fashionable suicide doors. Passengers “in real comfort” move along, only too aware of the enviable driving experience, this 3.5 litre Sports Jaguar brings for the fortunate driver.

This is a car, with presence the equal of a Bugatti! and investment potential underwritten with bullet proof provenance and the History File for this car, providing clear evidence of much of the cars life. Original Instruction Book and the original Jaguar Service Manuel, doubtless supplied as the car was delivered new, form the cornerstone of the file, which includes both a photographic record of works done with the body off in 1999 and present works current, as of today.

As always viewings are welcome with us in Suffolk, those flying may choose London Stansted for convenience and we are very happy to assist with travel arrangements and provide transportation to and from the Airport.

Should the car be going to mainland Europe, with a new owner, Phil is very happy to transport the car to any new home.  For journeys further afield, Emma liaising with our shipping partners Cars International can assist with all import/export paperwork.

Amongst many stunning Classic & Collectors Cars, this Jaguar truly stands out, transporting family and friends in fantastic style – what a car!
