Description: hey guys, I just upgraded to the r7000 last night, coming from a 5 yr old belkin n+ router. TBH i have not put a huge amount of thought into routers,

TBH i have not put a huge amount of thought into routers, but based on price and features I went with this version of the nighthawk. I connected the router following all the included instructions. Im not a complete NOOB when it comes to networking but just for piece of mind I followed all the directions in order. As soon as the genie came up I followed all the onscreen instructions and connected my service through the required PPPoE (DSL extreme 7.1Mbps/ 786Kbps). I installed the FW update that was immediately available. Right off the bat I designated my smart TV and Xbox one exclusively to the 5ghz band. Im keeping everything else (smart phones. tablets, roku boxes, other gaming consoles, guests devices) on the 2.4 ghz band. Problems that I had with my old router such as a very shaky connections when streaming or launching smart tv apps such as VuDU, netflix. and HULU, are gone completely. They all launch on the first try and stream in High Def 95% of the time. I no longer have problems with devices being dropped from the network, and youtube buffering has been eliminated for the most part ( on par with my wired PC performance). All of which you would think would be the case when upgrading 5 yr old technology.

Now that being said, my Xbox One GAMING performance has been completely degraded. All video apps on the console work famously, but my ping in COD AW has gone from 4 steady bars. 20-30 ms ping,(when the COD and Xbox live services are running smoothly) to ONE small red bar, and a good 3 second lag between performing the actions and their report on screen. So im thinking im rocking a good 300ms ping at minimum. This is the same situation on both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz bands. NAT is set to OPEN on 5ghz band and Moderate on 2.4 ghz. Needless to say this is going to have an impact on my K/D ratio ingame lol.

I have zero experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting these kinds of network issues. I have been googling every scenario i can think of to be able to find the correct answer. So far I haven't been able to find a concrete solution.

Is port forwarding the most viable solution? I have enabled and disabled QOS, power cycled the modem and router, It got late last night so i gave up and went to bed. I have been doing research when ever I can get a free moment at work today. Should I factory reset the router since I have upgraded the FW? Should I upgrade the FW to another version?

I'm willing to put in the work to fix the issue, Im just a little daunted at the amount of suggestions and maybe-fixes that are out there, NONE of which seem to match my issues, and Im just looking some guidance from someone who possibly has had and corrected a similar issue.

BTW games played on my hardwired PC play at a very low ping. just like always. Any assistance is appreciated.
