Description: Hi all, Please excuse the long message :) . I am looking for some info on the diagnostic connector in my car, recently I have got the CEL coming on. After checking up on reading flash codes from the car, I found that I wasnt able to get the car into a mode where it flashed the fault code. The light just remains on with no response, I took the carpet out to verify the ECU type which is a bosch on the sticker so should be 2.10.2 for the engine (2 L non turbo). I have read on a few forums

Please excuse the long message . I have read on a few forums about people having trouble getting flash codes to work, is there any solution?.

I found an obscure way which I got the flash codes working twice. On trying an OBDII reader which I bought on ebay that didnt work, I thought I would give a friends VAG reader a go which is a much more expensive one with more features etc. This didnt work either after trying several options, after chatting away for a 5 minuites while messing about with the reader we suddenly heard what sounded like a motor running for a few seconds then the CEL started flashing out the codes. A few weeks later I got the same thing happening when I was attemping to read the fault code again after fixing the previous problem and getting the CEL on again for another issue.

I am guessing that the reader is toggling some of the other pins which just happen to get the ECU in the correct mode. I discovered that the device must be shorting pin 14 to ground as when I do this I hear the "motor noise" which i found to be the fuel pump. I have tried various combinations to grounding pin 6 and 14 and dfferent times/lengths but have not been sucessful.

Ideally I would like to know what all the pins are on the connector to understand what is going on and attempt to reverse engineer the whole system. I know pin 4 and 5 are ground, 16 is 12V, 6 is supposed to be the "L-Line" to the ECU and 7 supposidly the "K-Line" to ECU, 14 to ECU but no mention of function (and fuel pump relay). Does anyone have the actual specs on these pins and how the protocol actually works. On the saab WIS I see that most systems seem to be connected to pin 8 (measuring about 5.2V), so i am guessing this is some sort of multiplexed pin to talk to everything. There is no mention of what pins 1 9 (both sitting about 2.4V)and 7 ( 0V)are for in the circuit diagram showing the diagnositc connector H16 (445), also pin 11 is shown to be wired but has no cable on my connector .

There seems to be loads of info on the trionic system with nice bits of software but very little on motronic 2.10.2, I would like to get to the bottom of this to I can read fault codes and eventually work out how to talk to the whole system. Does anyone have the interface specs for TECH II. - is it true that the interface uses CAN. I really want to be able to talk to all system in the car, especially the roof computer as this needs reprogrammed.

The CEL code I last read was for 73 Adaptation, short time. I discovered quite a few problems which I would be happy to share with anyone who wants to know. The CEL is still popping on from time to time but I think this is because of a small air leak and I need to get to a dealer to get hold of them (shaped vacuum pipe and bushing).
